Using Devices with XPressTools

The XPressTools software can be used entirely on its own, with just a regular PC. In this case, all data would need to be entered via the keyboard and mouse. However, XPressTools was designed to save time and be more accurate when used with different devices, such as bar code scanners, RFID readers, signature capture pads, and more. These devices can:

• Speed up transactions and other common tasks
• Eliminate errors due to mistyped information
• Promote accountability by users

XPressTools is designed to work with all keyboard wedge entry devices (devices that send input as if it were characters typed on a keyboard). Thus any keyboard wedge device, such as numeric keypads or some kinds of bar code scanners, will work automatically with XPressTools as an input device without needing any additional drivers. These devices will work fine for entering item stock numbers or employee badge numbers.

However, Telaeris has developed hardware device plug-ins to further optimize the use of some devices to work more intelligently. Optimized input devices will always send their data to the appropriate entry box, where it belongs unlike standard keyboard wedge devices which will send their data to the current active input box.
