The handheld devices are used by the
safety attendants at each entryway to the confined space. When an entrant approaches the entryway,
the safety attendant selects the direction of travel, and taps the employee's badge to the badge reader
built into the handheld to log their entry or exit. The safety attendant can also use the handheld to
retrieve live occupancy information or send pre-programmed messages to the on-site server.
The on-site
server receives information from all the handheld devices in operation.
The safety monitor at the server can watch the changes to occupancy in real time,
view older activity history, and add new people to the list of authorized
entrants. The server is mounted in a cart sturdy enough for use in rough
outdoor environments. The server cart also houses a printer for printing
reports and a battery back-up allowing for uninterrupted use.
The on-site server connects via a mobile broadband Internet connection to
an XPressEntry website.
The password-protected website can be viewed by project leaders and safety
supervisors to review current occupancy and activity history. Also,
information about users, companies, and entry points can be added or
changed. Customizable reports can be created on the fly, organizing
activity from shifts by date, user, company, or confined space.Helping to pass information between the handheld devices and the on-site server is the wireless network. The Wi-Fi coverage area is designed to reach all entryways and the on-site server. XPressEntry networking equipment is designed to be sturdy, modular, and mobile - allowing for the right size of coverage for the individual confined space layout. As with the on-site server, XPressEntry's networking equipment utilizes battery back-up systems to keep the wireless network running even with a temporary loss of electrical power. In areas where setting up a Wi-Fi network is infeasible, an alternative is to allow the handhelds to connect to the Internet and the website directly with wireless broadband connections.
XPressEntry can be configured to use the employee proximity card system your company already has in place for security and access control. There's no need to use separate badges.
